It has been revealed that Yunus Emre S., 32 years old, one of the 3 terrorists who attacked the police in front of the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul and was neutralized, was involved in a murder in Adana in 2018.
One suspect was killed and two suspects were neutralized with injuries in the conflict that broke out in front of the building where the Israeli Consulate is located in Beşiktaş. It was reported that two police officers were also lightly injured in the conflict.
THEY CAME WITH LONG-BARRELED WEAPONS
The incident occurred around 12:00 today in front of the plaza where the Israeli Consulate is located. Three attackers armed with long-barreled weapons launched an attack on the police officers who were taking security measures. A conflict broke out when the police teams responded. One of the attackers was killed, while two attackers were neutralized with injuries. Two police officers were lightly injured.
THE GOVERNOR MADE A STATEMENT
In a statement from the Istanbul Governor's Office, it was stated, "At around 12:15 on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, unidentified individuals opened fire on our security teams working in front of Yapı Kredi Plaza located in the Levent neighborhood of Beşiktaş District. A conflict broke out between our security forces and the attackers as our police responded immediately. One of the three armed attackers was killed, and two were captured with injuries. Two of our police officers were injured and taken to hospitals for treatment. Our injured police officers are not in life-threatening condition," it was stated.
THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE HAS LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION
In a statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated, "A deputy chief prosecutor and two public prosecutors have been assigned for the investigation; our public prosecutors have promptly arrived at the scene and started their examinations. In order to clarify all aspects of the incident, judicial and law enforcement units are continuing their work in coordination, and the investigation is being conducted meticulously and comprehensively."
GOVERNOR GÜL MADE A STATEMENT AT THE SCENE
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül made a statement after the inspections at the scene. Gül said, "An attack occurred against our police officers taking security measures in front of Yapı Kredi Plaza. As a result of the attack, two of our police officers were lightly injured. One of the terrorists was killed, and two terrorists were neutralized with injuries. First of all, I congratulate our Istanbul Provincial Police Chief and his entire team. Our police managed to mitigate this major attack thanks to their precautions and measures. The identification work for the deceased is ongoing. Our police are working on their connections and other matters. We will inform you at certain intervals. This is a provocative act; there is Yapı Kredi Bank in this area, and there are businesses next to it. There is a consulate behind it. There has been no activity in the consulate for about two and a half years. There is no ongoing work or diplomatic personnel in the consulate. The attack was carried out by three individuals. They arrived by vehicle and are armed with long-barreled weapons," he said.
MINISTER ÇİFÇİ: THE IDENTITIES OF THE TERRORISTS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED
Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi stated in a post on his social media account, "Three individuals who engaged in an armed conflict with our police officers on duty in front of Yapı Kredi Plaza in Istanbul have been neutralized. Two of our heroic police officers were lightly injured in the conflict. The identities of the terrorists have been identified. It has been determined that one of the individuals, who came to Istanbul from Izmit in a rented vehicle, has connections to an organization that exploits religion; it has also been established that one of the two terrorists, who are siblings, has a drug record," he stated.

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek stated in a post on his social media account, "An immediate investigation has been launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the reports of gunfire around the Israeli Consulate located in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul. A deputy chief prosecutor and two public prosecutors have been assigned for the investigation; our public prosecutors have promptly arrived at the scene and started their examinations. In order to clarify all aspects of the incident, our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is coordinating with the relevant law enforcement units, and the investigation is being conducted meticulously and comprehensively," it was stated.

The moments of the conflict in front of the consulate were captured on camera. The footage shows the attacker being neutralized by police teams. The moments when a police officer lay under a car and shot the terrorist in the leg during the conflict drew attention.
KILLED TERRORIST WAS TRIED FOR MURDER
On the other hand, it has been revealed that the killed terrorist Yunus Emre S. was detained along with his father Ahmet S. for being involved in the murder of a person named Ahmet Kalo in the Kiremithane neighborhood of the central Yüreğir district of Adana in 2018, and that he was released under judicial control by the court he was brought to, while his father was arrested. It was learned that the family moved to Izmit after this incident.
