The endemic Carian tulip has bloomed on Mağripoğlu Hill in Kuşadası. Experts have warned about the need to protect the plant, which is commonly known as the 'weeping bride.'
The 'Karya inverted tulip', an endemic plant species unique to Western Anatolia and commonly referred to as 'weeping bride', has started to bloom in Aydın's Kuşadası district.
BLOOMED
The 'Karya inverted tulip', native to Western Anatolia, has bloomed on the rocky slopes of Mağripoğlu Hill in the district.
REFERRED TO AS "WEEPING BRIDE"
The plant, captured by volunteers of the Ecosystem Protection and Nature Lovers Association (EKODOSD), is called 'weeping bride' by the public due to the droplets that form on the leaf tips in the morning from the moisture that accumulates at night.
This endemic species, which blooms mainly between March and May, draws attention with its single, drooping, bell-shaped yellow flower.
"IT'S OUR COMMON RESPONSIBILITY"
EKODOSD President Bahattin Sürücü emphasized the importance of protecting endemic species for the continuity of biological diversity, stating, "Unfortunately, the green belt surrounding Kuşadası is shrinking every year, and urbanization is expanding into natural areas. Therefore, we often do not realize which species are being lost within this rich biodiversity."
It is our common responsibility to carry the remaining natural and cultural heritage of Kuşadası, which has a climate rich in terrestrial and marine ecosystems and species diversity, into the future. As EKODOSD, we emphasize the importance of protecting the natural areas in Kuşadası that have not yet been opened to urbanization, conducting scientifically based land planning, strengthening biodiversity-focused conservation policies, and ensuring that endemic plant species are not uprooted from nature," he stated.
