A terrible incident occurred in New York. A defenseless woman sleeping on the subway was burned to death by a stranger. The incident took place on Sunday morning at the Coney Island subway station in Brooklyn. The suspect, identified as an immigrant from Guatemala, approached the sleeping woman in the subway car and set her on fire with a lighter. Nearby police officers noticed the smoke and intervened, but unfortunately, the woman could not be saved and died at the scene. New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica Tisch described this brutal murder as "one of the most horrific crimes a human can commit." Security camera footage showed the suspect calmly watching as the woman burned. Interestingly, the suspect remained at the station after the incident and sat on a bench. The police investigating the incident removed him from the platform area without realizing he was a suspect. Later, three high school students reported to the police that they had seen the suspect at another subway station. The police apprehended the man at another subway station in Herald Square. He was wearing the same clothes he had on during the incident and had a lighter in his pocket. It was determined that the suspect entered America in 2018 and was detained by border patrol in Arizona. There were no previous criminal records found in New York. The police believe that the attacker did not know the victim and that it was a random attack. The NYPD Commissioner thanked the brave high school students who noticed the suspect and reported to the police, emphasizing the importance of their help by saying, "They saw something, said something, and took action."
