Professor Dr. Bekir Zakir Çoban, a faculty member of the Faculty of Theology at Ege University, suggested in a program he attended that according to the Torah, heaven is Adana. Following this statement, which sparked significant debate, comments were made such as, "If heaven is Adana, then at least let there be air conditioning."
Prof. Dr. Bekir Zakir Çoban, who was a guest on the program "Beyond the Agenda with Pelin Çift" broadcasted on TRT 1, stated that the location of paradise, when interpreted according to the texts of the Torah, could be today's Adana and its surroundings.
"BETWEEN THE GARDEN OF EDEN AND ADANA..."
In his evaluation on the subject, Prof. Dr. Çoban mentioned, "There is an etymological similarity between the Garden of Eden, which is referred to as the paradise garden in the Torah, and Adana. This name similarity suggests that Adana could be connected to these sacred narratives. Of the four rivers mentioned in the garden, two are the Euphrates and Tigris, while the other two are Pishon and Gihon. In my opinion, these two rivers could also be Seyhan and Ceyhan."
"AT LEAST MAKE AIR CONDITIONING MANDATORY"
Çoban's comments quickly attracted the attention of social media users. Numerous shares were made on Twitter (X) and Instagram. While some users approached the statements with humor, others criticized them for lacking a scientific basis. One user remarked, "Dude, they've been fooling us with hellish heat, turns out we were in paradise," while another joked, "If Adana is paradise, at least make air conditioning mandatory."
COMMENTS WERE DIVIDED
Some viewers found the statements "mystical, different, and entertaining," while critics argued that this approach was far from academic seriousness.
