The famous resident of Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Sanctuary in Queensland, Australia, Cassius has passed away. The giant crocodile, measuring 5.5 meters in length and weighing over a ton, held the title of the largest crocodile in captivity according to the Guinness World Records. Before being captured in 1984, Cassius terrorized the area by attacking boats and hunting cattle. During his 37 years at the sanctuary, he formed a special friendship with the crocodile hunter who captured him, George Craig. Craig's grandson and one of the crocodile's caretakers, Toody Scott, said, "My grandfather would sit with Cassius for hours. Even though he used a wheelchair in recent times, Cassius would come to him every time he saw him." Shortly after 94-year-old Craig moved into a nursing home in October, Cassius's health began to decline. During a health check on October 15, the giant crocodile showed no issues, but a few days later, he refused to eat and was found dead in his enclosure on Saturday morning. In a statement on social media, the sanctuary officials said, "We will miss Cassius, who lived much longer than crocodiles in the wild. His love and memories will live on in our hearts."
