The incident occurred around 2:15 AM in a parking lot in downtown Lexington. Police stated that Kaydence Carpenter drove her vehicle onto the sidewalk towards a group of pedestrians.

DRIVED INTO THEM AFTER AN ARGUMENT

In videos shared on social media, Carpenter was seen arguing with four people on the sidewalk, then quickly getting into her black Tesla Model 3 and reversing. The suspect then accelerated forward, crashing into the crowd that was trying to flee in panic.

According to witnesses, after hitting at least three people, the vehicle continued to drive the wrong way down a one-way street after leaving the parking lot. At that moment, people around were seen chasing the vehicle.

FOUND TO BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Police teams reported that Carpenter's eyes were bloodshot, her speech was slurred, and she had a strong smell of alcohol. It was revealed that the suspect failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a breath test. Additionally, a fake ID was found in the vehicle.

FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES

Carpenter faces four separate charges of "second-degree assault," "first-degree endangerment," "driving under the influence," "reckless driving," and "allowing a person under 21 to be in a place where alcohol is sold." After being arrested, Carpenter was released on a $5,000 bond and denied the charges. The court decided to revoke her driver's license until the case is resolved. The suspect's next hearing will be on April 14. It was reported that the health condition of the 4 injured individuals is good and they are expected to fully recover.
