It was claimed that Deniz Eliş was taken hostage after traveling from Gaziantep to Bosnia and Herzegovina for tourism purposes, and that a ransom was demanded from his family. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Deniz Eliş had been reached and that arrangements were being made for his transfer to Turkey's Embassy in Zagreb.

In a post made on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Support social media account, it was stated, "Our citizen Deniz Eliş, who was reported to have been forcibly detained in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been reached today. Arrangements are being made for our citizen's transfer to our Embassy in Zagreb."

In the post, it was noted that the legal process regarding the matter is being followed by Turkey's Embassy in Zagreb, Turkey's Embassy in Sarajevo, and Turkey's Consulate General in Banja Luka, and it was recorded that Eliş's family has been informed.
