Scientists have detected high amounts of hydrogen and water components in the 4.48 billion-year-old 'Black Beauty' meteorite from Mars. This discovery, made with next-generation scanning devices, indicates that Mars had liquid water in the past.
It has been reported that Estrid Naver and her team from the Technical University of Denmark successfully visualized the interior of the Mars meteorite coded 'Black Beauty' (NWA 7034) using two advanced technologies called 'X-ray CT' and 'Neutron CT' without damaging it.
"WATER TRACE" FOUND IN 4.5 BILLION-YEAR-OLD MARS METEORITE
This stone, approximately 4.48 billion years old, contains small rock fragments called 'H-Fe-ox' (hydrogen-rich iron oxyhydroxide). It has been revealed that these small areas, which make up only 0.4% of the sample, hold 11% of the total water content of the stone.
PROVED THAT MARS ONCE HAD LIQUID WATER
This discovery has been stated to prove that Mars once had liquid water much more widely and probably than previously thought. Experts announced that they aim to use this contactless scanning method on samples planned to be brought from Mars to Earth in the future.
