In France, prominent opposition figure Jean-Luc Mélenchon has submitted a new motion to Parliament for the removal of President Emmanuel Macron.

Jean-Luc Melenchon, a prominent figure from the far-left party France Unbowed (LFI) in the opposition, announced that they have submitted a proposal to Parliament for the removal of President Emmanuel Macron from office.

PROPOSAL FOR MACRON'S REMOVAL SUBMITTED

Melenchon made statements regarding the agenda at a press conference held in Lille, in the north of the country.

Recalling that they had previously submitted a proposal for Macron's removal due to his refusal to take into account the results of last year's general elections, Melenchon stated that they have submitted another proposal against Macron, saying, "He needs to go. We have submitted the impeachment proposal."

"IT WILL BE A VICTORY FOR THE PEOPLE"

Jean-Luc Melenchon commented that Prime Minister François Bayrou's government will fall in the confidence vote to be held on September 8, stating, "This will be a victory for the people." In his speech, Melenchon referred to the situation in Gaza, where Israel's attacks continue, emphasizing that if members of his party were in power, the French Navy would be accompanying the Global Sumud Fleet ships aimed at delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.

CONFIDENCE VOTE IN FRANCE ON SEPTEMBER 8

In recent weeks, the rising voices of social media users and opposition politicians against the 2026 budget plan and calls for action against the government have signaled that Prime Minister Bayrou could share the same fate as his predecessor Michel Barnier, who was ousted due to budgetary deadlock.

Bayrou announced that he would bring the government to a confidence vote before the discussion of the 2026 budget, which includes savings of around 43 billion euros through the elimination of some public holidays, a move that has drawn backlash from the French public.

The opposition has announced that it will take a position in favor of ousting the government in the confidence vote to be held in Parliament on September 8.

PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT THAT FAILED TO GAIN CONFIDENCE WAS OUSTED

President Macron had dissolved the National Assembly last year to call for general elections. In the two-round elections held in June and July 2024, the leftist New People's Front (NFP) emerged as the winner by securing the most seats, while Macron appointed center-right Michel Barnier as Prime Minister instead of the leftist coalition's candidate.

The Barnier government failed to reach an agreement with the opposition regarding the 2025 budget and was ousted on December 4, 2024, after failing to gain confidence from the assembly in just three months. Following more than a week of discussions with party representatives, Macron appointed another center-right figure, François Bayrou, as Prime Minister on December 13.
