The Ministry of Health is implementing a new initiative in the fight against tobacco. In line with the goal of a tobacco-free Turkey, this time, citizens who use tobacco products will be directly reached, and SMS will be sent.
THEY WILL BE MARKED THROUGH THE SYSTEM
So, how will citizens who use tobacco products be identified? Citizens applying to any healthcare institution will be asked by doctors whether they smoke or not. If the answer is "Yes," the person will be marked in the system. The ministry will send SMS to the identified citizens. These messages will highlight the health hazards of tobacco products and emphasize that they are not alone in the quitting process.
"REFERRALS TO POLYCLINICS WILL BE MADE VIA SMS"
At the same time, steps that can be taken for those who want to quit tobacco products will also be reminded. The SMS sent will contain information about free smoking cessation clinics operating throughout Turkey. Citizens can apply to these clinics to receive both counseling services and medical support during the quitting process.
The Ministry of Health aims to raise awareness and increase the rates of tobacco product users with this method. The ministry is also continuing its regulatory work to include public areas such as children's parks and beaches within the scope of "red line." It was stated that the new regulation aims to reduce passive smoking in social areas and protect children from tobacco smoke.
