The semen of the Arabian stallion Baba Mevlüt, which is part of the Karacabey Agricultural Enterprise under the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TİGEM), is being sold for 2.5 million lira per liter.

Since the 1930s, the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TİGEM) has played an important role in Arabian horse breeding. One of the offspring of Caş, who has become a legendary name in horse racing and was raised at the Karacabey Agricultural Enterprise, is Baba Mevlüt, born in 2009. Baba Mevlüt was sold at an auction in 2011 and had a very successful racing career. In 2017, he was repurchased by TİGEM. Since then, the legendary stallion Baba Mevlüt has been used in the production of new racehorses. Baba Mevlüt, who has made his owner happy with his achievements while racing, has contributed to TİGEM for years with both his offspring and his sperm.
PRICE PER LITER 2.5 MILLION LIRA
The sperm of Baba Mevlüt, whose offspring are sold for millions of lira, is also profitable. Today, Baba Mevlüt's sperm, obtained in different quantities, is sold starting from 250,000 lira. When calculated as an average of 100 ml of sperm, it amounts to 2.5 million lira per liter.
ARABIAN HORSES ARE BEING BRED
Ali Yağlıcı, Deputy Administrative Director of Karacabey Agricultural Enterprise, stated that Arabian thoroughbred horse breeding in Turkey began in the 1930s with the importation of stallions and mares to the Karacabey stud farm, saying, "The horses we have are all descended from these stallions and mares brought to Turkey. This stud farm is the starting point for thoroughbred Arabian horse breeding for racing purposes in Turkey."
NOT EVERY DEMAND IS MET
Yağlıcı recalled that a frozen stallion sperm production laboratory was established in the enterprise in 2006, and said:
"The purpose of establishing the laboratory was to preserve the genetic material of the legendary stallion Caş for future use and to sell frozen sperm. Caş's frozen sperm is still available, but it is not for sale. We preserve the frozen sperm of approximately 40 stallions in the sperm production laboratory. We sell both fresh and frozen sperm to private breeders. In previous years, sperm was also sold abroad. We receive requests. We conduct a thorough examination first. If the mare's origin is compatible with the origin of the requested stallion and other conditions are met, we sell the sperm."
ONE DOSE 250,000 LIRA
Yağlıcı emphasized that there is good demand for the sperm of Baba Mevlüt, the famous offspring of the legendary racehorse Caş, stating, "One dose of sperm is 250,000 lira. Those who want to obtain a Baba Mevlüt foal from the mares apply, pay the fee, and purchase their sperm. We provide it fresh and it comes with a foal guarantee," he said.
DECEASED SPERM IS KEPT FOR GENETIC RESOURCES
Yağlıcı stated that they sell the living sperm preserved in the sperm production laboratory upon request, saying, "We do not sell the sperm of deceased stallions even if a fortune is offered. We keep them for the purpose of preserving genetic resources for future genetic studies."
