In the Harran district of Şanlıurfa, rescue teams were mobilized for four people in a car that fell into an irrigation canal. Firefighters, gendarmerie, and ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
In the Harran district of Şanlıurfa, 2 people managed to escape on their own after a car overturned into a drainage canal, while 4 others are missing.
According to the information obtained, the accident occurred in the Buğdaytepe neighborhood of the Harran district. Allegedly, Halil G., unaware that schools were on break, had an accident while taking his children and nephews to school. The car, whose license plate could not be identified, overturned into the drainage canal after the driver lost control of the steering wheel. In the accident, 2 people broke the car's window and escaped on their own, while 4 others went missing. Diver police, UMKE, fire brigade, AFAD, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area. The teams are continuing their efforts to locate the missing individuals by determining the position of the vehicle in the drainage canal.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
A statement was made by the Şanlıurfa Governor's Office regarding the accident. The statement said, "On Monday, December 29, 2025, around 08:00, a vehicle traveling on the road in the Buğdaytepe neighborhood of our Harran district fell into the Harran irrigation drainage canal, and two of our citizens in the vehicle managed to exit the canal on their own and are in good health. However, our citizen H.G. (42) and three children inside the vehicle unfortunately remained in the canal. Search and rescue efforts for our citizens have been initiated as quickly as possible. Search operations in the canal are being carried out by diver teams. The efforts conducted by AFAD, the Police, the Gendarmerie, the Metropolitan Municipality, and our health units are being coordinated on-site by one of our deputy governors. Great efforts are being made to locate our citizens as soon as possible," it was stated.
