The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced the measures to be taken during the Kurban Bayramı holiday. Uraloğlu stated that the use of highways, as well as the 15 July Martyrs Bridge and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, will be free of charge throughout the holiday. Additionally, trucks, tow trucks, and tankers will not be allowed on the roads.
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced the measures to be taken during the Kurban Bayramı holiday.
Uraloğlu stated, "We have increased our inspections against exorbitant prices in passenger transportation," and added, "Between May 20 and June 1, we inspected approximately 16,000 bus services of 499 businesses regarding the sale of overpriced tickets, illegal transportation, and those without authorization. We imposed administrative fines totaling approximately 11 million lira on bus operators who did not comply with the rules."
Highlights from Uraloğlu's speech are as follows:
- "During this holiday, crossings on the highways operated by the General Directorate of Highways, as well as the 15 July Martyrs Bridge and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, will be free of charge,
- We will provide services across Turkey with our 18 regional directorates, 123 branch offices, 16 tunnel and maintenance offices, and 25 highway offices,
- Routes such as Ankara-Kırıkkale and the roads beyond, Istanbul-İzmit, Eskişehir-Bursa, Afyon-Konya, Denizli-Muğla, Samsun-Sarp, Akçay-Balıkesir, Aydın-Kuşadası, Elazığ-Malatya, and Elazığ-Diyarbakır are expected to experience heavy traffic. We will take extensive precautions on these routes,
- We will impose restrictions on vehicles carrying special cargo. We will not issue transport permits for trucks, tractors, and tankers from June 5 to June 9,
- To address the issues of finding bus tickets and exorbitant prices, we have increased inspections in passenger transportation. We imposed administrative fines of 11 million TL on bus operators who did not comply with the rules,
- In Istanbul, Marmaray, the Sirkeci-Kazlıçeşme line, and the Gayrettepe - Istanbul Airport - Arnavutköy metro lines, as well as Başkentray in Ankara and İzban in Izmir, will provide free service,
- We will halt road maintenance and repair unless absolutely necessary during the holiday,
- We will keep the KGM's road status website updated,
- There will be an increase in capacity on high-speed trains."
