While the threats from U.S. President Donald Trump continue, a notable move has come from the White House. In a post made on the official social media account of the White House, the people of Greenland were presented with two options, calling for them to make a choice between the U.S. and Russia and China.
A message was addressed to the people of Greenland from the official social media account of the White House.
TWO OPTIONS WERE PRESENTED
The post featured an image with the US flag and the White House on one side, and an image with the flags of Russia and China along with the presidential palaces of these countries on the other side. The same post drew attention with the message "People of Greenland, which way?" on sleds with dogs carrying the Greenland flag, running towards images symbolizing the US, Russia, and China.
The White House's post also included a statement from US President Donald Trump, expressing that the US needed Greenland for national security reasons.
TRUMP'S GREENLAND ASSERTIONS
In his latest statements regarding the issue, President Trump stated that the US and Europe needed to defend Greenland for their national security, saying, "We cannot allow China or Russia to invade Greenland."
Greenland, an autonomous region under Denmark, had previously rejected approaches from the US that included the transfer of sovereignty. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated on January 5 that everything would come to an end if the US decided to take military action against its NATO ally. Frederiksen harshly criticized Trump's statement, "We need Greenland for our national security."
