According to Türk-İş's report for July 2025, the hunger threshold for a family of four has risen to 26,413 TL, while the poverty threshold has increased to 86,036 TL. The cost of living for a single worker is 33,982 TL, and the annual increase in food expenses has exceeded 37%. These figures once again highlight that workers are struggling to meet their basic needs.
The Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (Türk-İş) published the results of its "Hunger and Poverty Line" research for July 2025. According to the announced data, the hunger line, which only covers the food expenses of a family of four, has risen to 26,413 TL, while the poverty line, which includes expenses such as housing, transportation, health, and education, has reached 86,036 TL.
The monthly "cost of living" for a single worker living in Ankara was calculated to be 33,982 TL. The research revealed that the price increases in basic needs continue to strain the budgets of workers.
The increase in food expenses was measured at 1.14% compared to the previous month. The twelve-month change rate was 37.32%, while the annual average increase rate reached 42.60%. The total increase in the first seven months of 2025 was recorded at 25.28%.
KITCHEN INFLATION INCREASED
The July 2025 data from TÜRK-İŞ revealed that the pressure on kitchen expenses for the working class continues. The minimum expenditure that a family of four living in Ankara must make for food has increased by 1.14% compared to the previous month. Over the last 12 months, kitchen inflation was 37.32%, while the annual average increase was calculated at 42.60%. The total increase in the first seven months of 2025 reached 25.28%.
