One of Turkey's important clothing brands, Defacto, has laid off 450 employees working at its headquarters and warehouses following the economic crisis it experienced. A person who had worked as an accounting specialist at the company for nearly 10 years said, "If there was such a plan, it should have been communicated a month in advance so that everyone could adjust themselves. Now, with schools having opened and expenses incurred, we have been abruptly left at the door like an empty water jug."

The global economic crisis has led to many companies in Turkey waving the bankruptcy flag, and among the firms facing serious financial difficulties is Turkey's clothing giant, Defacto.

THEY HAD ALSO LAID OFF STORE EMPLOYEES

According to a report by Ali Can Polat from Sözcü, a few months ago, the company parted ways with over 200 workers in its stores, and this time it has laid off approximately 450 employees from its headquarters and warehouses. The company, which has been working from home, imposed a 3-day office requirement on its employees at the beginning of June. It was later reported that this would increase to 5 days at the beginning of September, and workers stated that they had arranged their school-home-nanny schedules accordingly, saying, "We learned we were fired with a phone call one evening."

"IF IT HAD BEEN TOLD A MONTH IN ADVANCE, EVERYONE WOULD HAVE ADJUSTED"

Ahmet Yücesoy, who has been working as an accounting specialist at the company for 9.5 years, said, "If there was such a plan, if it had been announced a month in advance, everyone would have adjusted themselves. Now that schools have opened and plans and expenses have been made, we were suddenly left at the door like an empty water bottle."

THEY WILL FILE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR REINSTATEMENT

The laid-off employees have started to organize in WhatsApp groups. The workers are preparing to file a class action lawsuit for reinstatement. A lawyer representing the dismissed employees stated in an assessment: "They carried out a massacre of workers under the pretext of economic contraction and technological investment. People were notified of these layoffs via email the night before.

"NO ONE TOUCHED THOSE KNOWN BY TOP MANAGEMENT"

Even employees working in the disabled quota were laid off in this manner. There are allegations that those known by top management were not touched. We will investigate all of them and initiate the legal process. When downsizing, long-term employees with 10-15 years of service were let go, while those who joined a few months ago remained; senior employees were dismissed."
