A couple trapped in a sauna fire in Tokyo, Japan's capital, lost their lives. In a private sauna located in the Akasaka area of Minato district in Tokyo, Japan's capital, two people died in a fire. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at a facility named "Sauna Tiger," where 37-year-old Yoko Matsuda and 36-year-old Masanari Matsuda were inside when the fire broke out. At around 12:25 PM, after the building's fire alarm was activated, numerous fire and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Although the cause of the fire is not yet known, it was brought under control shortly after, while the Matsuda couple was found unconscious inside the sauna. The couple was taken to the hospital but could not be saved despite all interventions.

Investigations revealed that the emergency button inside the sauna was not active during the fire and that the handle of the entrance door was broken both from the inside and outside. The police, assessing that the couple was trapped inside until the building's fire alarm was activated, launched a detailed investigation on suspicion of negligence. The facility named "Sauna Tiger," which temporarily suspended its operations after the incident, apologized to the public, stating, "The police and fire teams are continuing their investigation regarding the accident. We are fully cooperating with the authorities."
