On July 13th, around 1:30 PM, an incident occurred at the Safibey Product Collection Center in the Geyve district; producer S.Ç. and his companion S.E. smashed the watermelons they wanted to sell on the ground after the wholesaler they had an agreement with suddenly canceled the purchase. Those moments were captured on a mobile phone camera, while S.Ç. and S.E. stated that they had brought the products to the wholesaler they had previously agreed upon, but acted out of anger when the purchase did not take place and expressed their regret.
PROCEEDINGS INITIATED
Proceedings have been initiated against S.Ç. and S.E. under Law No. 5957 regarding the Trade of Fruits and Vegetables. The file has been referred to the Unfair Price Assessment Board for the evaluation of administrative fines ranging from 1 million 400 thousand TL to 17 million 200 thousand TL per person.

On the other hand, in a statement made by the Ministry of Trade, it was said, "Our primary priority is to protect the economic balance and food security throughout all processes from the production of agricultural products to their delivery to consumers. We will not tolerate the waste of agricultural products, the recurrence of such images that hurt the public conscience, and market-distorting behaviors. The heaviest administrative sanctions will be applied against actions that disrupt market functioning."
