HIGH LEVELS OF URANIUM IN DRINKING WATER

The Mayor of Heraklia, Kleanthis Koçakiahidis, shared the analysis results conducted by the municipal water and sewage administration (DEYAH) with the public. Accordingly, high levels of uranium were detected in the groundwater sources of the villages of Melenikitsi and Hortero.

WATER USAGE PROHIBITED IN 2 VILLAGES

Following the findings, the use of water for drinking and cooking purposes was prohibited in the mentioned villages, while no restrictions were imposed on water usage for daily cleaning and other purposes.

EMERGENCY MEASURES IMPLEMENTED

It was noted that authorities have implemented emergency measures to protect public health and have initiated efforts to bring the water back to safe levels.

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED IN THREE SETTLEMENTS

On the other hand, on May 28, a state of emergency (SOE) was declared in three settlements after dangerous levels of uranium were detected in drinking water again in the city of Serres.
