As of today, a 30% increase has been made in public transportation in Istanbul, while a striking statement came from the AK Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman Abdullah Özdemir. Özdemir announced that this increase will not be applied on the Marmaray and "U" logo metro lines operated by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

NEW TARIFFS IN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

With the new increase, the full electronic ticket has risen from 27 lira to 35 lira, and the Mavi Kart subscription fee has increased from 2,120 lira to 2,748 lira.

CRITICISM OF "NO IMPROVEMENT IN SERVICE"

Criticizing the CHP-led Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Özdemir stated that there has been a 1246% increase in public transportation over the past 6 years, saying, "Buses that break down every day have become a common sight in Istanbul. This increase is based neither on mathematical data nor on any economic justification."

"NO INCREASE ON MARMARAY AND U LINES"

In his statement, which concerns millions of Istanbul residents, Özdemir said, "Let Istanbulites know that this increase will not be valid on the metro lines with the 'U' logo and Marmaray."

Here is the full text of Özdemir's statement;

"Dear Fellow Citizens;

Until today, when determining public transportation fees, the minimum wage, inflation rate, and changes in fuel prices have been taken into account. Normally, an increase is made once a year, but the CHP-led Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has violated these customs.

On January 15, a 35% increase was already made, valid for the year 2025. Now, only 8 months later, and with no new justification, a new 30% increase in public transportation has been implemented, effective from September 15.

With this increase:

The full electronic ticket has been raised from 27 lira to 35 lira.

The Mavi Kart subscription fee has been increased from 2,120 lira to 2,748 lira.

They have made a 1246% increase in public transportation over 6 years. Weren't they supposed to reduce transportation to symbolic fees?

Moreover, there is no improvement in service with these increases. Buses that break down every day, leaving our citizens stranded, have become a common sight in Istanbul. This increase is based neither on mathematical data nor on any economic justification...

Let Istanbulites know that this increase will not be valid on the lines operated by our Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, meaning it will not apply to the metro lines with the 'U' logo and Marmaray. Especially, hundreds of thousands of our citizens using Marmaray will not be affected by this increase.

The CHP-led Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality should know that Istanbul is not without a guardian. As AK Party organizations, we will continue to protect the rights and laws of Istanbulites on every platform, just as we have done until now."
