Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro stated that he is open to dialogue with the United States regarding the fight against drug trafficking and oil. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro gave an interview to journalist Ignacio Ramonet on state television. When asked about the possibility of dialogue with the United States on drug trafficking, oil, and migration issues, Maduro responded, "We are ready for dialogue wherever and whenever they want." Maduro emphasized that "the time has come for both countries to seriously start discussions with the data they have." Maduro said, "As we have told most of the spokespeople of the U.S. government, if they want to discuss a serious agreement on combating drug trafficking, we are ready."
HE MADE A STATEMENT REGARDING THE U.S. GROUND ATTACK ON VENEZUELA
Maduro reiterated claims that the U.S. has been trying to overthrow his government and gain access to Venezuela's vast oil reserves through a campaign of sanctions and military pressure that has lasted for months. Pointing to Chevron, the only major oil company exporting Venezuelan crude oil to the U.S., Maduro stated, "If they want oil, Venezuela is ready for U.S. investments, as in the case of Chevron." When asked whether he could confirm or deny the U.S. ground attack on Venezuelan territory, Maduro replied, "This could be a topic we can discuss in a few days."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
U.S. President Donald Trump had stated earlier in the week that they had carried out an attack on a port in Venezuela where drug boats were docked. It was noted that this was the first attack carried out by the U.S. on Venezuelan territory.
