In the second phase, which includes legal and regulatory arrangements within the framework of the goal of a Turkey without terrorism, contacts have gained momentum; the DEM Party's Imralı Delegation met with Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç and the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş, and mutual exchanges of views regarding the process took place.

Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, received members of the DEM Party delegation from Imralı, including Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly and Van MP Pervin Buldan, and Şanlıurfa MP Mithat Sancar.

The closed-door meeting lasted approximately 40 minutes. After the meeting, Mithat Sancar stated to reporters, "We had a very productive and sincere meeting with Mr. Numan Kurtulmuş. The establishment of a commission in the Grand National Assembly is historically significant; it was a situation that did not exist until now. Therefore, we have always said that carrying the peace process to the parliamentary ground will have very important results and effects. This impact will continue from now on. The Grand National Assembly will play a very important role in terms of democratic legitimacy, participation, transparency, and guarantees. We have reached the stage of writing a joint report, which is planned to be revealed in early January, and work is ongoing in this regard," he said.

"PEACE IS A VITAL NEED FOR THE MIDDLE EAST"

Sancar, stating that the process is ongoing, said, "This process needs social guarantees and support; however, legal guarantees are valid not only for this process but for the entire society. A fair and equal legal system and its implementation are important for social peace to be valid throughout the country. Democracy is very important for all of us and for the entire country; peace is a vital need both for the Kurdish issue and for Turkey and the Middle East. The relationship and interaction between these issues have been part of our discussions," he stated.

Pervin Buldan also indicated that the meeting went well, stating, "What is important during this process is that the political will has reached a common consensus. However, it is also very important for the parliament to take ownership of this process. Therefore, we thank Mr. Kurtulmuş for taking ownership of this will as the commission chair and for continuing his constructive role. We expressed our views on the completion of the report by mid-January and received Mr. Kurtulmuş's opinions. It was a good meeting," she said.

THE IMRALI DELEGATION MADE ITS FIRST VISIT TO THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE

The DEM Party delegation visited Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç at his office. The delegation included Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Pervin Buldan, Şanlıurfa MP Mithat Sancar, and lawyer Özgür Faik Erol.

The meeting at the Ministry of Justice lasted approximately 2 hours. After the meeting, DEM Party Şanlıurfa MP Mithat Sancar stated that they addressed the current justice and legal issues, saying, "We exchanged ideas regarding legal regulations related to the ongoing process. We received information about their preparations and presented our suggestions. As you know, peace can only be achieved on the basis of justice and legal guarantees. In this regard, the Ministry of Justice has an important role and responsibility, which the minister and his team also acknowledge," he said.

"WE DISCUSSED HOW TO STRENGTHEN THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR PEACE, INCLUDING THE 11TH JUDICIAL PACKAGE"

Sancar stated that work is ongoing on many issues, saying, "We discussed how to strengthen the legal framework for peace, including the 11th judicial package currently being discussed in the parliament. Equality in execution and justice was also a topic of our discussions. The various aspects of the regulations related to the process were also addressed in this meeting. We saw that there is intense work being done at the Ministry of Justice. From the information provided, we learned that the Ministry of Justice is making comprehensive preparations. We also presented our own suggestions. Our goal is to secure peace through law and to make it permanent on the basis of justice. Work will continue in this regard, contacts will continue, and discussions will continue," he stated.

"WE DISCUSSED PREPARATIONS FOR THE LAW TO BE PASSED REGARDING THE PEACE PROCESS"

DEM Party Van MP Pervin Buldan stated, "We discussed how preparations are being made for the law to be passed regarding the peace process. However, in addition to this, issues such as human rights violations in prisons, especially concerning elderly and sick prisoners, as well as those whose sentences are being served, have also become a topic of discussion. As you know, there are many elderly and sick prisoners in prisons, and due to the problems experienced in administrative observation boards, releases are not taking place. We shared our views and suggestions with the minister regarding this. We thank the Minister of Justice for his constructive approach on this issue, and he agrees with us that preparations should be completed as soon as possible. We will follow up, remain in consultation, and maintain dialogue, as we believe this is important for the successful outcome of the process," she evaluated.

"WE MADE COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATIONS REGARDING THE 'TERROR-FREE TURKEY' PROCESS"

Minister Tunç, in a statement on his social media account after the visit, conveyed that they made comprehensive evaluations during the meeting, stating, "We made comprehensive evaluations regarding the 'Terror-Free Turkey' process, which is of great importance for the future of our country and nation. We discussed the steps to be taken within the framework of the roadmap to be presented by the TBMM National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, which is being carried out with great coordination by the relevant institutions of our state under the strong leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan," he stated.
