The co-chairs of the DEM Party, Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, visited former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş and Selçuk Mızraklı, who have been imprisoned in Edirne Prison for 9 years. After the visit, the co-chairs stated, "We need them to carry out this process. In order to transform this into a positive peace, our friends need to be released."
The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan visited former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş and Selçuk Mızraklı, who have been detained in Edirne Prison for nearly 9 years. The visit by Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan began around 11:30. A press statement was made after the visit.
"OUR FRIENDS NEED TO BE RELEASED"
Bakırhan, who took the floor first, stated: "I saw them very well and healthy. I saw them very hopeful, strong, and in good spirits. They send their regards to all of you. They are following the process we are conducting very well from inside and supporting it. They want the process to have a positive outcome. They said they would take on their duties and responsibilities to advance this process. We need them to carry out this process. We need our friends in this historic process. Since there is great support for this in Turkey, our friends need to be released for us to transform this into a positive peace."
"THEY EXPRESSED THAT THEY ARE PROVIDING THE STRONGEST SUPPORT"
Continuing, Hatimoğulları responded to journalists' questions: "We had a very productive meeting with them. They expressed that they are providing the strongest support for the process to reach a conclusion in a short time. According to the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), our friends need to be outside as soon as possible. It is a matter of justice, law, and conscience that they should be outside. Even if we are not discussing and debating this process, our friends should be outside according to the ECHR decision. Besides all this, in this process where we talk about peace, of course, such a result coming to life urgently will make 72 million of our people extremely happy."
