March was not the best month for billionaires due to the Iran war. Nine of the ten richest people in the world entered April 'poorer' than at the beginning of March.
Only four of the top 10 richest names from last month maintained the same ranking. Among them are the world's richest person Elon Musk and second-placed Larry Page. Although their rankings remained the same, Musk and Page were two of the top 10 names that lost at least 20 billion dollars last month. Musk's fortune decreased by 22 billion dollars.
The biggest loser was Bernard Arnault, the French executive of the luxury goods giant, whose wealth fell by 28 billion dollars to 142.5 billion dollars, dropping from 7th to 10th place. Another major loser was Amancio Ortega, the Spanish fast fashion giant, who fell from 10th to 14th place.
ENTERED THE TOP 10 AFTER 3 YEARS
Walmart heir Rob Walton lost 3 billion dollars but still entered the top 10 for the first time in 3 years. The other new name (and the only riser) in this month's top 10 was PC giant Michael Dell; his fortune increased by 2 billion dollars to reach 143.1 billion dollars, rising from 13th to 8th place.
Jeff Bezos also saw a relatively modest decline in his fortune, decreasing by 1 billion dollars to 223 billion dollars, yet he rose to 3rd place for the first time since October. He swapped places with Google co-founder Sergey Brin. Brin fell to 4th place for the first time since January with his net worth.
