The Ministry of Trade announced that the newly determined minimum wage of 28,075 TL will not be allowed to be used as a justification for unfair and disproportionate price increases. The Ministry stated that reflecting the increase rate directly onto the prices of all goods and services is not in line with economic realities and expressed that all administrative and legal measures will be implemented with determination.

The Ministry of Trade announced that the minimum wage for the year 2026 has been determined to be 28,075 TL, with an increase of 27 percent. The ministry expressed hope that the determined wage would be beneficial for working life, production structure, and the country's economy.

"AFTER THE WAGE INCREASE, UNREASONABLE PRICE HIKES CANNOT BE MADE"

In its statement, the ministry emphasized that the minimum wage increase would not be allowed to be turned into unjust and unreasonable price hikes under the pretext of pricing behaviors. It was noted that the minimum wage is only one of the total cost elements, and that reflecting the increase rate directly onto all goods and service prices is not in line with economic realities.

HEAVY PENALTIES FOR EXORBITANT PRICES AND PROFITEERING

The Ministry of Trade announced that all necessary administrative and legal measures would be decisively implemented against businesses that resort to exorbitant pricing practices under the pretext of wage increases. The statement noted that administrative fines would be applied without exception for unjust pricing practices that harm consumers, and that penalties would be enforced in the heaviest manner based on updated fine amounts.

INSPECTIONS WILL CONTINUE NATIONWIDE

The ministry stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, along with provincial trade and agricultural directorates, are actively working in the field, and that teams from the General Directorate of Internal Trade and the General Directorate of Consumer Protection and Market Surveillance are conducting intensive and continuous inspections. The ministry declared that no leniency would be shown towards any practices that disrupt price stability, undermine fair competition, and target the purchasing power of citizens.
