A charge of 45 TL added to a 10,000 TL bill for four people at a popular venue in Kadıköy, Istanbul has sparked controversy.
A famous venue in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul has drawn great backlash on social media and in the public due to its "charging fee." While the recent increase in service charges, table settings, and spending limits at restaurants has become a topic of discussion, this incident made people say, "No way!"
"THEY'VE ADDED THE CHARGE TO THE BILL"
Bulent Cankurt, a columnist for Sabah Newspaper, recounted an interesting incident that happened to a friend in his column. In his article titled "They've added the charge to the bill!", Cankurt shared the experience he had at a venue in Kadıköy:
"Recently, we went with friends, and everything was really great. However, I was shocked when a friend recounted an incident he experienced at the same place last month! He said that the bill he paid, which was around 10,000 lira, included a 45 lira charging fee. At first, I thought it was a joke, but it wasn't!"
"WHAT KIND OF BUSINESS MENTALITY IS THIS?"
Cankurt stated that he couldn't hide his astonishment in front of the receipt photo shown by his friend. The famous writer expressed, "What kind of business mentality is this? I really don't understand how they can think so small! I truly say, enough is enough," he stated.
BACKLASH GROWS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
The incident quickly became a hot topic on social media. Users reacted to the restaurants' understanding of "turning every item into money," with comments like, "It's not a charge for 45 lira, it's a disgrace."
Consumer associations reminded that such additional fees could be considered unfair profit if not clearly stated in advance.
