The prison sentence of 9 years and 9 months given to the defendant, Dr. Muhammet Mustafa Duman, who was convicted in a local court for sexually abusing and killing the dogs he adopted in Ankara, has been overturned and reduced to 4 years and 4 months. The decision has sparked outrage.
A shocking decision has been made regarding the doctor who killed dogs after sexually abusing them in Ankara. The Ankara Regional Court of Appeals 17th Criminal Chamber (BAM) made a ruling concerning the appeal against the local court's decision regarding Muhammet Mustafa Duman, who was sentenced for killing pets and sexual assault.
Reviewing the appeal against the decision of the Ankara West 3rd Criminal Court dated October 17, 2025, BAM ruled for the case to be retried due to deficiencies identified in the file.
HE PLAYED THE VICTIM ROLE
In the hearing, the defendant Duman stated, "Such a victimization has never been seen in the 103-year history of Turkey. Turkey is a rule of law, and I request that a decision in accordance with the law be made to remedy my victimization."
The chamber, which reviewed the 9 years and 9 months prison sentence given by the local court, lifted the 'sexual abuse of animals' ruling against Duman and reduced the sentence to 4 years and 4 months.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The defendant, doctor Muhammet Mustafa Duman, was detained and arrested on the allegation that he killed dogs he had adopted from different people at his home in the Bağlıca neighborhood of Etimesgut district. The investigation initiated by the Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was completed, and an indictment was prepared. The indictment stated that Duman obtained a total of 8 puppies identified in the file, 3 of which were obtained on March 30, 2025, and 5 on April 26, 2025, through free adoption advertisements posted on social media.
It was noted that the suspect took the puppies home in a box, sexually abused them, and then dismembered and killed them. The suspect was reported to have placed the dead dogs in black garbage bags, taken them outside the house, and disposed of them in an undisclosed location. After returning home, the suspect was said to have wiped the doorknobs and floors to destroy evidence, painted the walls, and that there were camera recordings related to the puppies' deaths in the file.
Additionally, according to digital examinations and expert reports, it was concluded that the suspect stored and recorded approximately 43,000 obscene images containing sexual abuse of dogs and other animals, thus committing the crime of 'obscenity.' A prison sentence of up to 17 years and 6 months was requested for Duman for the crimes of 'obscenity' and 'deliberately killing multiple pets through sexual abuse.' - ANKARA
