A 45-year-old woman living in Istanbul noticed that her triple crown teeth were missing when she woke up in the morning. At first, she thought she might have swallowed her teeth. After a brief search on the internet, the woman went to the hospital without wasting any time due to her anxiety.
X-RAY RESULTS SURPRISED THE DOCTORS
The chest X-ray taken at the hospital changed the course of events. It was determined that the crown bridge consisting of three teeth had gone into the lungs. Due to the risk of blocking the airways, the doctors immediately put the patient under treatment. The crown tooth was successfully removed using the bronchoscopy method.
"VERY RARELY SEEN IN ADULTS"
Speaking to TRT News, Chest Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Levent Alpay stated that they detected the aspiration of the crown bridge in the lung film and that they immediately admitted the patient. Alpay noted that such cases are usually seen in children and are quite rare in adults.
Alpay said, "In such cases, swallowing is generally involved. However, it poses a serious risk that can block the trachea and can be life-threatening. Therefore, quick intervention is necessary."
WARNING FOR THOSE WITH CROWN TEETH
Prof. Dr. Alpay also gave important warnings to those using crowns and bridge teeth. Emphasizing that crowns that loosen over time or have broken connection wires can increase the risk of aspiration or swallowing, Alpay stated that regular dental check-ups should not be neglected.
