A 26-year-old woman trying to prepare dinner for iftar in Aksaray was injured by burns on her hands and feet when the curtain next to the stove caught fire. The fire caused the kitchen window to shatter with a loud noise. The young woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Foreign national Farnezi Ö. (26) narrowly escaped death yesterday while hastily preparing food to break her fast in Aksaray. The young woman placed the food on the stove and went to another room, when the flames from the high-level fire on the stove immediately ignited the curtain above it.
CURTAIN CAUGHT FIRE, KITCHEN WINDOW EXPLODED
As the tulle curtain caught fire, the sunshade curtain also ignited, causing the flames to rise even higher. Noticing the fire, the woman attempted to intervene with her own means but was injured by burns on her foot and hand. With the burning of the curtain, the kitchen window also exploded with a loud noise.
INJURED WOMAN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL
Residents of the apartment who noticed the fire immediately reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon the notification, police, medical, and fire teams were dispatched to the scene. The medical teams that arrived at the scene provided first aid to the injured woman before taking her to the Emergency Department of Aksaray Training and Research Hospital by ambulance, while the fire teams extinguished the fire. It was learned that the health condition of the woman, who is undergoing treatment related to the fire, is good, and the police have launched an investigation.
Fatma K., a resident of the neighborhood who witnessed the fire, stated, "My neighbor was cooking. There was something like a curtain next to the food. When that caught fire, the window exploded."
