Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke about the talks that took place in Oman between Iran and the USA during a television program he attended. Fidan stated that although it was previously decided that the talks would be held in Istanbul, they were moved to Oman due to a decision made by Iran. He expressed that the talks in Istanbul would be conducted directly, which is why Iran preferred mediation talks in Oman.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated regarding the Iran-US talks, "Our proposal was to meet side by side and talk with a mediator in separate rooms. They have made such a decision. They want to continue with the system in Oman," he said.

Minister Fidan made striking statements about international developments during a live broadcast on CNN Türk. The most important topic of the live broadcast was the tension between the US and Iran.

WHY DID IRAN GIVE UP ON ISTANBUL?

Fidan spoke about why the previously announced US-Iran talks in Istanbul were moved to Oman after being asked questions.

Fidan stated that despite the decision to hold the talks in Istanbul, they were moved to Oman due to Iran's decision. He expressed that the talks in Istanbul would be held directly, which is why Iran preferred to have mediated talks in Oman.

Minister Fidan said, "We are doing our best to prevent disaster. Iran has its own decision-making mechanism. There were a few issues previously established by rules regarding the negotiations in this mechanism, in terms of location, modality, and parties. Our proposal was different; we suggested that Iranian officials meet face to face with the Americans and not talk with a mediator in separate rooms. Their own decision-making mechanisms also need to be respected. They have made such a decision. They want to continue with the system in Oman. Same place, same people, same method," he stated.

"WHAT IS IMPORTANT FOR US IS TO DISTANCE OURSELVES FROM THE THREAT OF WAR"

Fidan, who said, "Two days ago, Americans and Iranians met in Oman," added, "They had an indirect meeting through the Omani mediator, which was already an existing modality. Our Iranian colleague Mr. Abbas Arakçi provided us with information regarding the negotiations there. We also listened to the American side. We had managed to get a decision for the talks to be held in Istanbul. Creating a positive atmosphere during the meeting is encouraging for us.

We constantly need to find creative solutions. The parties are trying to be creative. What is important for us is to distance ourselves from the threat of war," he said.
