The President of YÖK, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, announced that they will implement a regulation that allows successful students to complete their universities in 3 years. Additionally, it was stated that practical courses in vocational schools will be increased and internship opportunities will be strengthened.

YÖK will announce the "Roadmap for Turkish Higher Education Towards 2030," which includes new steps to be taken in higher education in Turkey, to the public tomorrow. In this context, YÖK President Özvar, who made evaluations regarding some prominent topics in the roadmap, stated that there are serious discussions about education durations both in Turkey and around the world.

"SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO COMPLETE UNIVERSITY IN 3 YEARS"

Özvar, who expressed that they desire successful students in higher education to complete their universities in a shorter time and that they will initiate new studies on this issue in the future, said:

"I would like to share that we will implement a regulation that allows our students who wish to complete their studies in a shorter time, specifically in 3 years, provided they are successful. There is no doubt that we want to do this without compromising the quality standards of higher education in Turkey. I would like to express this opportunity as well. We will hopefully share the details with the public in the coming days."

"OUR GOAL IS TO INCREASE STUDENTS' SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES"

Touching on the studies regarding vocational education, YÖK President Özvar emphasized that expectations for practical experience and application among university graduates in the labor market are increasing.

Özvar stated that they have revisited the topic of vocational education in higher education and recalled that they have initiated some reform studies for vocational schools in the last 1-1.5 years.

Özvar pointed out that in a series of meetings held under the chairmanship of Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, they have introduced some new regulations that will give more weight to vocational programs in vocational schools, saying, "We will continue to remove programs that do not provide vocational training from the system, especially within vocational schools."

"THE WEIGHT OF PRACTICAL COURSES IN VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS WILL INCREASE"

Özvar noted that new regulations regarding internships and practical training will be on the agenda, and they have started activities on this matter with relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, stating:

"As a result of the comprehensive agreement and protocol we have made with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, we will strengthen the connections between vocational schools and chambers, and the weight of practical courses in vocational schools will increase. Additionally, we will introduce some new regulations regarding internships. The fundamental reason for implementing all these practices and new regulations is to enhance our students' practical skills and experiences. Thus, I believe we will meet the expectations for 'intermediate staff' in the labor market more quickly and comprehensively."
