After the local elections on March 31, 2024, many provincial, district, and town administrations were transferred to the AK Party. Most recently, with the transfer of 9 mayors, including Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, a total of 56 mayors have joined the AK Party. These transfers have changed the local election landscape.
While dynamic days are being experienced in Turkish politics, the AK Party continues to strengthen its power with new memberships. The party, which recently celebrated its 24th anniversary, made a significant show of strength in its new age.
Among those joining are 9 mayors from different provinces and parties, including Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, who have joined the ranks of the AK Party.
56 MAYORS HAVE JOINED THE AK PARTY
After the local elections on March 31, 2024, 56 mayors, including those from CHP, DEM Party, İYİ Party, New Welfare Party, Felicity Party, DEVA Party, and independent figures, have joined the AK Party. Of this number, 24 are from the New Welfare Party, 14 are independent, 7 are from CHP, 7 are from İYİ Party, 1 is from Felicity Party, 1 is from DEM Party, and 1 is from DEVA Party.
PARTICIPATION FROM SEVEN REGIONS
According to a report by Emrah Özcan from Türkiye Gazetesi, the participations spread across seven regions of Turkey. Many mayors from Konya, Aydın, Ordu, Samsun, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon, Manisa, Yalova, Çanakkale, Isparta, Aksaray, Kastamonu, Batman, Elazığ, Kütahya, Çankırı, Şırnak, Adıyaman, Erzincan, Muş, Ağrı, Bingöl, Kırşehir, Sivas, and Uşak have joined the AK Party.
