A historic summit took place yesterday in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the three-hour summit, the two leaders appeared before the cameras, delivering important messages, while President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also provided his first comments regarding the Alaska summit.
"HAS GIVEN MOMENTUM TO THE SEARCH FOR ENDING THE WAR"
In a statement on his social media account, President Erdoğan said, "The meetings held in Alaska between US President Mr. Trump and Russian Federation President Mr. Putin have given new momentum to the search for an end to the Russia-Ukraine war."
"WE ARE READY TO PROVIDE EVERY KIND OF CONTRIBUTION FOR PEACE"
Erdoğan also stated, "We welcome the Alaska Summit and hope that this new process will lay the foundation for lasting peace with the participation of Ukrainian President Zelensky. Turkey is ready to provide every kind of contribution for the establishment of peace."
CRITICAL SUMMIT LASTED 3 HOURS
After the three-hour summit in Alaska, the two leaders appeared before the cameras and delivered important messages. Russian President Putin stated, "The situation in Ukraine stems from our security threats. Our country has sincere feelings to end this war. I want to thank Trump. We had a productive meeting. We also want to reach an agreement regarding Ukraine."
"THERE IS NO AGREEMENT AT THE MOMENT"
Donald Trump said, "I believe we have taken important steps today. We had a very constructive meeting. We agreed on many important issues. There is no agreement at the moment. I will talk to NATO. I will discuss what we talked about with Zelensky. We have a great relationship with President Putin."
PUTIN ASKED TRUMP FOR THE DONETSK REGION
According to the UK-based Financial Times, land exchange was also on the agenda during the meeting. A report based on four individuals directly familiar with the discussions stated that Putin asked Trump for the transfer of Ukraine's Donetsk region to Russia.
IT COULD BE A FIRST IN 16 YEARS
Furthermore, during the meeting, Putin invited Trump to Moscow. Following Putin's invitation to Moscow, all eyes turned to the definitive decision Trump would make. The last US President to visit Russia was Barack Obama in 2009. Since then, no US president has gone to Moscow due to the tensions between the two countries.
