The continuous heavy rainfall in Antalya for the past three days has caused a flood disaster. In Alanya, due to the water rising to chest level, AFAD teams are evacuating citizens trapped in a building by boat, while 74.4 kilograms of rain fell per square meter in the district in the last 24 hours.
Antalya has been experiencing a disaster for the past 3 days due to heavy rainfall. Flooding occurred in many areas as a result of the heavy rain. Homes, workplaces, and barns were flooded, streams overflowed, and businesses were destroyed. One of the cities most affected by the disaster, Alanya, saw a house flooded. AFAD teams evacuated residents from the building using boats in water that rose to chest level.
THE ESEN STREAM OVERFLOWED IN KAŞ
The heavy rainfall affecting Antalya also caused serious damage in the Kaş district. Flooding occurred around the Esen Stream as the water level rose due to the heavy rain. Many agricultural lands in the region were submerged, and crops were damaged. Kaş Mayor Erol Demirhan stated, "Our municipality's units are continuously carrying out necessary preventive and protective measures in our neighborhoods around the Esen Stream, and our teams are working on the ground 24/7. We are continuing our rehabilitation, embankment strengthening, and rescue efforts quickly and effectively in the neighborhoods affected by the flood. We are closely monitoring all developments and taking all necessary precautions decisively for the safety of our citizens' lives and property."
WATER ROSE TO CHEST LEVEL, CITIZENS WERE RESCUED BY BOAT
The heavy rain that has been affecting Alanya for days caused the water level to rise in the Dim Stream. In the Kestel neighborhood, close to the stream, some ground and first-floor apartments in certain sites and villa blocks were submerged. Apartment entrances, building surroundings, and internal site roads were filled with muddy water, and some vehicles and belongings were also seen to be exposed to water.
One of the points most affected by the flood was Yener Street on Regulator Street in the Kestel neighborhood. Those in an apartment on the ground floor that was flooded were safely evacuated by AFAD teams dispatched to the area upon notification. Teams reached the residents of the building in water that rose to chest level and carried out rescue operations. Some residents were evacuated with the help of boats.
GARDENS AND PARKING LOTS OF SITES ARE UNDER WATER
Due to the flooding, the garden areas and parking lot entrances of some sites were completely covered with water. Puddles formed in front of the doors of ground-floor apartments, and it was observed that some of the stair railings and garden walls were below the water level.
74 KG OF RAINFALL PER SQUARE METER
On the other hand, according to the data from the Alanya Meteorology Directorate, 74.4 kilograms of rain fell per square meter in the district within 24 hours.
RESTAURANT SWEPT AWAY BY FLOOD
In the Antalya Kundu region, lands were submerged, roads and agricultural areas in the Döşemealtı district turned into lakes, and damage occurred in picnic businesses in the Dim Stream area of Alanya as the water level rose. The pavilions set up in the stream were swept away by the rising flow and reached the sea. A restaurant operating by the stream was destroyed in seconds and swept away by the waters. Moments when a restaurant disappeared during the flood were recorded by nearby citizens.
HOUSES AND BARNS FLOODED
Due to the heavy rain that has been affecting Serik for 3 days, flooding occurred in the Köprü Stream River, affecting fruit orchards and one house and six barns located in the Ahmediye area of Boğazkent. The flooded house became unusable. The large animal barns were filled with water. The animals in the barn were evacuated with the help of the owner and neighbors. The accumulated water on the road between Serik Industrial Site and Boğazkent caused difficulties for drivers.
Boğazkent Neighborhood Muhtar Özkan Uysal stated, "The rain that started around 19:30 yesterday was effective in our region. Our citizen rescued 27 dogs in the dog shelter with the help of AFAD and the municipality team. In Ahmediye village, houses and barns are under water. The municipality's evacuation efforts are ongoing," he said. Uysal explained that flooding occurred during the rains due to waste in the streams.
İsmail Hasırcılar, whose house was flooded, said, "The inside of my house is filled with water. We started to clean our house with our means."
Ibrahim Hasırcılar, whose barn was flooded, said, "My father called and said the house was flooded. About half a meter of water had filled the inside of the house. Also, our barns where our large animals stay were under water. First, we evacuated our animals. Then we salvaged as much hay and feed from the storage as we could."
HOUSES EVACUATED
In Alanya, many houses were evacuated due to floodwaters in the Obaçayı region.
AFAD and gendarmerie teams have started working to evacuate the houses on Obaçayı Street and to drain the flooded water. Alanya IHH teams worked to rescue vehicles stranded in the water in the Dimçayı region. In Manavgat, the water level of the Manavgat River, which had risen due to rainwater, has started to decrease. There was a noticeable reduction in the water level today, which was at a critical level yesterday.
