The murder committed in the Sultangazi district of Istanbul, driven by jealousy, revealed a tragic misunderstanding. İhsan Ç. called Erdal Kökyayan, whom he claimed was having an affair with his wife, under the pretense of a meeting, and then shot and killed him in his vehicle. After the incident, the fleeing suspect was quickly apprehended thanks to the diligent work of the police teams, and the investigation revealed that the allegations were unfounded and that the parties did not know each other.
The armed attack that took place during the daytime in the Sultangazi district of Istanbul resulted in a bloody murder. 41-year-old Erdal Kökyayan was found shot in the head inside a car and died in the hospital where he was taken. The investigation launched after the incident quickly clarified the murder.
CHILLING SCENE AT THE CRIME SCENE
The incident occurred around 3:00 PM in the Esentepe neighborhood of the Small Industrial Site. Teams that arrived at the scene upon notification provided first aid to Erdal Kökyayan, who was found severely injured inside the car. Kökyayan, who was taken to the hospital, could not be saved despite all efforts.
MURDER CAUGHT ON CAMERA
Teams from the Homicide Bureau launched a large-scale operation to capture the suspect who fled after the incident. The footage captured by security cameras showed the suspect getting out of the vehicle and fleeing, while the car rolled back and was involved in an accident. The suspect, whose identity was determined through the footage, was identified as İhsan C.
SUSPECT CAPTURED IN A SHORT TIME
Police teams detained İhsan C. in an operation conducted in the Karadolap neighborhood of Eyüpsultan. The number of detainees increased to two when his relative Hasan C., who was in the vehicle during the incident, was also captured.
“I SUDDENLY PULLED OUT THE GUN AND FIRED”
İhsan C., whose statement was taken at the Public Order Branch, confessed to the murder. In his statement, the suspect said he committed the murder because he thought there was a relationship between Kökyayan and his wife. İhsan C. stated that he called Kökyayan to the car under the pretext of a meeting, took his relative Hasan C. with him while on the road, and pulled out his gun and fired while heading towards his wife's workplace.
ALLEGATION TURNED OUT TO BE FALSE
Investigations conducted as part of the inquiry revealed that there was no relationship or connection between İhsan C.'s wife and Erdal Kökyayan. It was also revealed that the suspect's father warned his daughter-in-law on the day of the incident by saying, “He has come out with a gun, he could harm everyone.”
İhsan C. and Hasan C., who had previous records for various crimes, were referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station. The investigation regarding the incident is ongoing.
