An explosion occurred in a garbage truck in Fatih. It was learned that the cause of the explosion was the contact of carbide material thrown in the trash with water.
It was determined that the explosion in the garbage truck in Fatih occurred as a result of the carbide material thrown into the trash coming into contact with water. There were no fatalities or injuries in the incident, and the street was closed off with a security cordon.
EXPLOSIONS OCCURRED IN THE GARBAGE TRUCK
The incident took place around 1:00 PM on Macar Kardeşler Street in the İskenderpaşa neighborhood. While collecting waste with the municipality's garbage truck, explosions occurred inside the vehicle. Noticing the smoke, the truck driver stopped the vehicle and emptied the trash onto the road. Upon notification, fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
THE REASON FOR THE EXPLOSION IS INTERESTING
Fire teams conducting the investigation determined that the explosion was caused by the carbide material thrown into the trash, which releases flammable acetylene gas when it comes into contact with water. Due to the possibility that the smoke could be toxic, police and fire teams closed the street by setting up a security cordon. During the extinguishing efforts, small explosions occurred from time to time. The teams safely disposed of the hazardous carbide material.
Neighborhood resident Mehmet Gülsen said, “The garbage truck made popping sounds as it passed. It didn't sound like a bomb. Firefighters came, sprayed foam, and extinguished it. There was an explosion in the trash. No one was harmed.”
