After all CHP mayors in Edirne left their party, for the first time since the transition to multi-party life, a picture emerged in which the CHP has no mayoralties.
Following the absolute nullity decision and the change of administration in CHP, the CHP mayors in Edirne's center and all its districts resigned from their party. For the first time since the transition to a multi-party period, there is no CHP mayor left in Edirne.
3 MAYORS JOINED THE NEW PARTY
In this development that caused an earthquake in Edirne politics, the mayors followed two different roadmaps. Edirne Mayor Filiz Gencan, Havsa Mayor Hüseyin Özden, and Uzunköprü Mayor Ediz Martin left CHP and joined the ranks of the NEW Party, founded under the leadership of Özgür Özel.
3 MAYORS REMAINED INDEPENDENT
On the other hand, Enez Mayor Özkan Günenç, Süloğlu Mayor Mehmet Ormankıran, and Lalapaşa Mayor Sezgin Geldi resigned from their party and announced that they would continue their duties as independents.
A FIRST IN THE MULTI-PARTY ERA
The wave of separations that began with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu returning to the chairmanship of the general leadership has left the party completely without municipalities in Edirne. Following the mass resignations in the center and all districts, for the first time since the transition to multi-party political life, no mayor carrying the CHP logo remains throughout Edirne.
