A herd of 42 elephants attacked villagers in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, India. The aggressive elephants killed 4 people by trampling them and injured many others. It has been reported that the herd is still active in the area and law enforcement forces have been dispatched to the region.
A herd of 42 elephants, reportedly, attacked the residents of villages in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, India, causing the death of 4 people within hours.
According to The New Indian Express newspaper, the consecutive attacks by the wild elephant herd in the villages of Ramgarh caused panic.
ELEPHANTS KILLED 4 PEOPLE BY TRAMPLING
The first attack occurred on December 16 in the evening local time. According to eyewitnesses, local residents approached the herd of elephants resting by the roadside to take photos with them. One of the elephants caught a 33-year-old man who got too close and trampled him to death.
Later that night, after the same herd entered another village, those frightened by the loud noise of the elephants began to flee their homes. In the ensuing chaos, two women aged 40 and 45 were trampled to death by the elephants. A 35-year-old motorcyclist, who was attacked by the herd afterward, also lost his life.
HERD STILL ACTIVE IN THE AREA
It was reported that there were injuries among those in the villages entered by the herd and that houses were damaged. Local authorities stated that the herd, consisting of 42 elephants, was roaming in groups. It was noted that the herd is still active in the area, and law enforcement forces have been dispatched to the region.
