Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya provided information on new penalties that will be introduced with the New Traffic Law Proposal through his social media account. Yerlikaya stated, "For drivers who run a red light, we will revoke their driver's license for 30 days on the 3rd violation, for 60 days on the 4th violation, and for 90 days on the 5th violation. On the 6th violation, we will cancel their driver's license."
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who announced the toll of traffic accidents, also revealed the new penalties that will be on the agenda with the New Traffic Law Proposal.
Minister Yerlikaya made a striking statement regarding traffic accidents on his social media account. Sharing footage of an accident caused by a vehicle running a red light, Yerlikaya stated, "In 2024, we lost 137 lives due to red light violations."
"As you can see in the video; the motorcyclist who did not stop at the red light hit a citizen who was trying to cross the street. In 2024, an administrative fine of 5,450 was imposed every day due to red light violations," he said.
"NECESSARY ACTION TAKEN"
In his statement, Yerlikaya also said, "Last week, the driver named B.Ü., who ran a red light in Edirne and endangered traffic safety by hitting a citizen trying to cross at a pedestrian crossing, was caught. Necessary action was taken."
NEW PENALTIES ON THE WAY
The Minister also provided information about the new penalties that will be on the agenda with the New Traffic Law Proposal. Yerlikaya stated, "For drivers who violate the red light for the 3rd time, we will revoke their driver's license for 30 days; for the 4th time, 60 days; for the 5th time, 90 days. In the case of a 6th violation, we will cancel their driver's licenses."
Yerlikaya also wrote: "Running a red light is not just a rule violation; it is an irresponsibility that threatens the lives of our citizens. Traffic lights are safety for all of us. If you see drivers engaging in such behavior, please report them to our 112 Emergency Call Center. 'We Will Take Necessary Action.'
