A new era is approaching for money transfers in Turkey. As of January 1, 2026, users will be required to enter a description of at least 20 characters for high-value transactions made through mobile banking and ATMs.

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has implemented new measures to prevent illegal betting and money laundering. According to the communiqué published by MASAK, it will now be mandatory to provide an explanation for money transfers of 200,000 TL and above. Moreover, this explanation must contain at least 20 characters.
REQUIREMENT FOR DETAIL IN DIGITAL BANKING
When the total transfer made to the same person through mobile or internet banking exceeds 200,000 TL within a day, the system will require the user to specify the purpose or content of the transaction. This way, the reasons for high-value money movements will be recorded more clearly.
BLOCKING WITH "SMART KEYBOARD" AT ATMs
Banks will present a "smart keyboard" screen to users for high-value transfers at ATMs. The transaction cannot be completed without entering a justification on this screen.
EMPHASIS ON TRANSPARENCY AND DETERRENCE
Authorities state that the new application will increase transparency in the financial system and play a deterrent role against illegal activities. Thus, while banking transactions become more traceable, the aim is to prevent the informal economy.
