Pampal stated, "It occurs due to the rupture of the fault zone that extends from Western Anatolia to Central Anatolia. There was the Simav earthquake in 2011 and the 6.1 magnitude Sındırgı earthquake. The region is very fragile. This zone produces earthquakes of magnitude 5-6. The North Anatolian fault is a very important fault. However, the faults in Western Anatolia generally produce earthquakes of magnitude 5-6, rarely reaching 7. Producing earthquakes above 7 would have devastating consequences in our country."
