An retired teacher in Çanakkale, who believed the suspects that introduced themselves as judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers over the phone, sold 2 apartments, 1 village house, and 3 olive groves, handing over a total of 25 million liras to the fraudsters. The suspect, who turned out to be wanted for qualified fraud, was arrested and sent to prison.

In November 2024, scammers who contacted retired teacher A.T. in the Ayvacık district of Çanakkale introduced themselves as judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers, demanding money under the pretext of an operation against terrorist organizations.

SELLING EVERYTHING HE HAD

Believing the scammers, A.T. sold 2 apartments, 1 village house, and 3 olive groves, handing over a total of 25 million TL in cash in 6 installments to the scammers who came to his residence. Following a complaint made to the Çanakkale Provincial Police Department, the Public Order Branch teams initiated an operation to capture the suspects.

ONE OF THE SUSPECTS CAPTURED

A.T., who also withdrew 4 million TL from the bank, was about to hand over the money to the suspects when the Public Order Branch teams and Ayvacık District Police Department teams conducted an operation. During the operation, one of the suspects, T.E., was captured while attempting to collect the money at the residence.

COMMITTED FRAUD IN EVERY CITY HE VISITED

It was determined that the detained suspect T.E. was wanted for being the suspect in a qualified fraud case amounting to 121,000 TL that occurred in Mersin on December 4, 2024, as well as for being the suspect in a qualified fraud case involving 30,930 dollars that occurred in Kayseri on December 20, 2024, and for being the suspect in a qualified fraud case amounting to 15 million TL that occurred in Antalya. Additionally, he was identified as a suspect in a qualified fraud case involving 1 set of five gold items, 1 gold badge, 1 gold ring, and 39,400 TL that occurred in the Bayramiç district (Gendarmerie area) on November 7, 2024.

ARRESTED

After his procedures at the police station, the suspect T.E. was referred to the courthouse and was arrested by the court after his statement to the prosecutor. Meanwhile, as part of the ongoing investigations by the Public Order Branch teams, another suspect, R.G., who came from Istanbul to Ayvacık, was also captured.
