ERDOĞAN'S MESSAGE BACK ON THE AGENDA While all this is happening, President Erdoğan's speech made 11 years ago at the Haliç Congress Center and his posts on social media have come back to the agenda.
In June 2015, Erdoğan stated:
"Those who caused events in many parts of Turkey on October 6-7-8 are now shamelessly trying to set Turkey on fire. I address those who mention Turkey alongside the terrorist organization: From where do you get the right to call those who open their arms to those fleeing bombs terrorists? Turkey does not come together with terrorist organizations while providing humanitarian aid. No one can portray us alongside Assad and other terrorist organizations. I call out to the whole world: No matter the cost, we will never allow the establishment of a state in northern Syria, south of Turkey. I want this to be known. No matter the cost, we will continue our struggle on this issue. President Erdoğan, who has maintained a firm stance on Syria for years, and the Republic of Turkey have not abandoned the Syrian people, nor have they ever turned their backs on what has happened. Turkey, which has opened its doors wide to all Syrian citizens fleeing the massacres of the Baath regime, has supported Syrian citizens under all circumstances. At this point, the revolution that has taken place in Syria has completed its first year, and so far, the number of Syrians who have returned permanently to Syria from Turkey has reached 600,000."
