In the investigation regarding the death of 20-year-old Aleyna Yağar, who was shot at home in Diyarbakır, her boyfriend Cafer Başeğmez, who reported it as a "suicide," was arrested after the gun was found under the sink. Speaking after the incident, mother Ziynet Yağar stated that she had sent her daughter to her aunt's house in Istanbul twice to keep her away from Başeğmez.
In Diyarbakır, the mother Ziynet Yağar spoke about the incident in which 20-year-old Aleyna Yağar was shot and killed at home.
THE GUN WAS FOUND UNDER THE SINK The incident occurred on the evening of March 20 at a house in the Üçkuyu neighborhood of the Yenişehir district. Cafer Başeğmez called the 112 Emergency Call Center, reporting that his girlfriend had committed suicide. Following this, health and police teams were dispatched to the address. The health team's examination determined that Aleyna Yağar had passed away. An investigation revealed a gunshot wound on Yağar's upper right chest. However, the gun was not found next to the body. A search of the house revealed that the gun was hidden under the sink. Following this, Başeğmez was taken into custody. Aleyna Yağar's body was delivered to her relatives after the autopsy procedures and was buried in the Yeniköy Cemetery in the Bağlar district.
"I HEARD A GUNSHOT WHILE IN THE BATHROOM" After his procedures at the police station, Cafer Başeğmez was arrested by the court he was brought to. In his statement, he reiterated the suicide claim and denied the accusations, saying, "We had a fight with Aleyna during the day. I came home. I went into the bathroom. While I was in the bathroom, I heard a gunshot. When I went out, I saw that she had committed suicide."
HIS BROTHER WAS ARRESTED FOR KILLING HIS EX-WIFE It was revealed that Cafer Başeğmez's brother, Emrah Başeğmez, had stabbed and shot his ex-wife Esma Başeğmez, whom he had divorced a short time before, on July 15, 2022, and fled. He was caught at an address where he had been hiding for three months as a result of police work. Emrah Başeğmez, who confessed to his crime, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in the trial he was involved in.
"HE HAD ABUSED MY DAUGHTER" Ziynet Yağar stated that Cafer Başeğmez had become obsessed with her daughter Aleyna, saying, "I have worked for years, I took care of my children, I brought them to this level. No one has taken a bite of bread from my child's throat. She was someone who loved life. That monster took my child away from me. The one who killed my child is Cafer Başeğmez. As far as I know, he had been obsessed for 1.5 years. My child canceled her number several times. She tried to escape many times. I informed my in-laws, saying, 'Come and support my child.' No one came to open my door, no one reached out. No one patted my child's head. I had obtained a report of assault for my daughter 15 months ago. This monster had abused my daughter. But despite everything, my child still did not file a complaint. I live in the same house with my three children. Two hours before she left, Aleyna had called me to her room. She said, 'Mom, I have blocked this filth from everywhere.' My child left home around 10 o'clock. She went and never came back. On the day of the incident, there were witnesses during the day. They come together, and there is a female eyewitness. The woman told us, 'In front of my eyes, he handed a package of drugs called 'crystal' to Aleyna, and I held her hand and did not let go. I took it from Aleyna's hand myself.' And this Cafer Başeğmez was threatening the woman there. My daughter gets into a taxi and comes home. Whatever happened, my daughter left the house. My children have been raised in poverty and deprivation. God, do not leave my rights, do not leave my child's rights," she said.
"I SENT ALEyna TO ISTANBUL TWICE IN A YEAR BECAUSE SHE WAS AFRAID" Yağar, who wants the harshest punishment for her daughter's killer, said, "My child was someone who loved life. My child was a girl who received all the beauty certificates. My child was going to open her own shop this summer. I sent my child to her aunt in Istanbul twice within a year. That monster reached her again. Even her aunt in Istanbul was a witness. He was threatening my daughter. My daughter could not break free from him; he was threatening my daughter. The one who took my daughter away from life is this Cafer Başeğmez. This Cafer Başeğmez had illegal substances, all kinds of filth, whatever was in this monster. And he was telling Aleyna, 'I have planted a drug field.' He said, 'My brother is in prison. There are guys in Ankara, they are in the game. After I plant and harvest this field, I will get my brother out of prison with this money.' He personally told this to Aleyna. Aleyna also told me. My child's dream was to stand on her own feet. She did not want to get married; she hated men. Marriage was not even on her mind. They were not in a relationship with Cafer Başeğmez. The more my daughter wanted to escape, this monster was after her. No matter how much she tried to escape, this monster was after her, and my daughter was afraid. If my daughter had been a girl prone to suicide, she would not have fasted for a month during Ramadan. She would not have bought the cosmetic products that ended on the evening before the holiday. My child did not commit suicide. She had also ordered weight gain pills before the holiday. If she were a girl prone to suicide, why would she order for herself? I want whoever is involved in this murder to be revealed. I do not want other mothers to suffer. I want the harshest punishment so that other Aleynas do not die. Their power is enough for women. I demand that the state take this case seriously. Hear the cries of this mother," she said.
