The General Directorate of Security assigned 2 police chief inspectors following allegations that an 18-year-old youth was subjected to torture at a police station in Kadıköy.
The General Directorate of Security (EGM) announced that two police chief inspectors have been assigned to investigate allegations of assault and torture against an individual in custody at a police station in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul.
CRASHED INTO THE POLICE VEHICLE WHEN ATTEMPTED TO BE STOPPED
In a statement from EGM, it was noted that there was a need to make a statement regarding the incidents alleged to have occurred at a police station in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul, as reported by some media outlets and social media accounts.
The statement indicated that a vehicle attempted to be stopped by the on-duty teams on March 3 crashed into the police vehicle, and findings related to drug trafficking were detected during the checks.
It was reported that individuals named H.M.A. and M.A.E.Ş. in the vehicle were apprehended and referred to judicial authorities on March 4, and the following was stated:
"In order to thoroughly investigate all aspects of the allegations of assault and torture raised regarding the duration of M.A.E.Ş.'s custody at the police station, two police chief inspectors have been assigned by our General Directorate of Security."
CLAIMED TO HAVE BEEN TORTURED AT THE POLICE STATION
The 18-year-old M.A.E.Ş., who was detained on drug charges in Kadıköy and released by the prosecutor's office, claimed to have been tortured at the police station.
It was stated that an investigation was initiated by the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office based on the findings of the forensic medicine report.
It was alleged that a bottle was attempted to be inserted into the young man's rectum by five police officers.
