In the ongoing war between the US-Israel and Iran, a olive branch came from Qatar's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majid al-Ansari, who stated, "Iran has been here for thousands of years. No one is going anywhere. No people or country can be erased at the request of any political actor. We will live side by side, and we must find ways to do this."
The spokesperson of the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid al-Ansari, spoke at a press conference about the ongoing war between the US-Israel and Iran, which has been continuing for 29 days. Al-Ansari emphasized that the war can only end through diplomatic means and evaluated the return of the parties to the negotiation table as the most appropriate option.
"IRAN HAS BEEN HERE FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS, IT IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE"
Al-Ansari clearly stated Qatar's position regarding the current crisis. He noted that they are not directly mediating between Iran and the US and said that Doha's priority is to protect its own sovereignty and security.
Al-Ansari stated, “Iran has been here for thousands of years. No one is going anywhere. Total destruction is not an option. No people or country can be erased from existence at the will of any political actor. We will live side by side, and we must find ways to do this.” Highlighting the difficulty of the current process, Al-Ansari said, “We are going through a very difficult period, but we will find a way out.”
THE ONLY CONTACT WITH IRAN WAS A HIGH-LEVEL MEETING
Referring to Qatar's contacts with Iran, Al-Ansari announced that the only official contact took place between Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
CALL FOR JOINT SECURITY IN THE GULF
Al-Ansari stated that following the tensions in the region, Gulf countries need to reassess their joint security architecture. He noted that the existing defense partnerships have demonstrated their effectiveness during the war process and emphasized that coordination among regional countries must continue.
Recalling that the Gulf Cooperation Council had previously taken defense measures following an attack on Qatar, Al-Ansari highlighted the importance of maintaining this cooperation.
The Qatari Ministry of Defense announced that two ballistic missiles were launched at the country by Iran during the ongoing war in the Middle East. The statement indicated that one of the missiles was intercepted in the air by air defense systems, while the other hit Al-Udeid Air Base, with no casualties reported.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid al-Ansari had stated that "red lines have already been crossed." He said that his country is prepared, stating, "Qatar has the capacity to stop any element attempting to attack or harm it."
US-ISRAEL ATTACKS ON IRAN
Israel and the US launched a military attack on Iran on February 28 while negotiations were ongoing between the Tehran and Washington administrations.
In response, Iran retaliated with attacks on targets it identified in some regional countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain, where US bases are located, in addition to Israel.
In the US-Israel attacks, several high-ranking officials, including former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, were killed.
