The spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, stated that Ukraine's membership in NATO is unacceptable, saying, "This poses a serious threat to our security. It could have disastrous consequences for all of Europe."
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, evaluated the current issues at a press conference held in the capital Moscow.
"CONFLICTS MAY RESUME"
Emphasizing that the fundamental causes of the Ukraine crisis need to be eliminated, Zakharova stated, "Therefore, without completely eliminating them, a long-term solution to the issue is not possible. Otherwise, conflicts may resume. This is unacceptable for us." Zakharova noted that U.S. President Donald Trump has taken this approach into account, saying, "Time will show what the outcome will be. There are many accumulated problems in bilateral relations, including the Ukraine crisis and international issues. We see that the Trump administration is ready to consult on these issues."
"IT COULD LEAD TO DISASTROUS CONSEQUENCES FOR EUROPE"
Evaluating the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO, Zakharova stated, "Ukraine's membership in NATO is unacceptable for us. It poses a serious threat to our security. This could lead to disastrous consequences for all of Europe. However, it is not enough for Kiev to simply abandon its acceptance into NATO at this time." She emphasized that Ukraine should be neutral according to its constitution, not join any alliances, and not possess nuclear weapons.
"BRUSSELS REMAINS FOCUSED ON THE MILITARY SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE"
Zakharova argued that the European Union (EU) does not want the war in Ukraine to end, stating, "The European elites against Russia are rejecting the possible framework for a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis as if they are unchained, acting with hatred and anger. It seems that Brussels remains focused on the military solution to the issue."
"SUPPORT FROM EUROPEAN COUNTRIES TO KIEV WILL NOT BE IN VAIN"
Spokesperson Zakharova emphasized that the support of European countries to Kiev will not be in vain. Pointing out that Western countries have reacted negatively to the negotiations between Russia and the U.S., Zakharova stated, "We see that the West is responding to Russian-American contacts with tension, even in a panic." She noted that they value the proposals made by China and other countries regarding the resolution of the situation in Ukraine, stating that this is an indication of "responsibility."
