BAHAR CANDAN INJURES HERSELF IN PRISON
Bahar Candan, who was arrested along with her sister Nihal Candan on charges of money laundering and membership in a criminal organization, attempted suicide in prison. Today, Candan harmed herself by injuring herself. Candan was transferred to Silivri State Hospital for treatment.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As part of the investigation into a criminal organization for "qualified fraud," it was determined that the members of the criminal organization gained the trust of the victims by selling cheap cars obtained through tenders from various government institutions nationwide, and collected money by receiving car requests through this method.
It was determined that the suspects, who received approximately 10 million lira from 13 victims using the same method, did not make repayments or deliver the vehicles, claiming that there were problems with the tender. 5 out of 6 suspects who were detained in the operation conducted on May 3, 2023, as part of the investigation, were arrested. Alisya Bahar Candan, Gülnihal Çiçek, and Hacı İsrafil Sağlam were also detained in the same investigation and were arrested by the judge on November 16, 2023.
NIHAL CANDAN WAS RELEASED FROM PRISON
Nihal Candan, who suffered from anorexia (inability to eat) disease in prison and dropped to 37 kilograms, was released due to health reasons. Candan responded to criticisms regarding her release while many elderly and sick inmates were still in prison, saying, "Why are they asking me about this? Am I the one keeping those people inside? Everyone who is innocent should get out of that closed cemetery."
