The football betting investigation that has shaken Turkey is deepening. A detention order has been issued for 29 suspects, including former Galatasaray executive Erden Timur, and it has been learned that 14 of these individuals are football players.

There are hot developments as of this morning in the illegal betting investigation that has created a seismic effect in Turkish football.

ARREST WARRANT FOR 29 SUSPECTS

As part of the investigation into allegations of illegal betting in football, an arrest warrant has been issued for a total of 29 suspects, including 14 players. It has been learned that Erden Timur, a former executive of Galatasaray Sports Club, is also on the list.

STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In a statement made by the prosecutor's office, it was stated; "As part of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, known to the public as the 'Betting Investigation in Football'; data obtained from MASAK and legal betting sites, open source research, PFDK decisions, HTS analysis studies, and the examination of digital items seized from other suspects in the previous two operations have resulted in the identification of evidence,"

Seven suspects, who are evaluated to have suspicious financial transactions related to the suspect in custody who was processed in the previous two simultaneous arrests, detentions, searches, and seizures,

ERDEN TIMUR DETAIL CAUGHT ATTENTION

Six suspects who placed bets on the Kasımpaşa-Samsunspor football match dated 26/10/2024, which is understood to affect the outcome of the match, and one suspect working at TFF, whose suspicious financial transactions were identified as related to this betting account as a result of the examination of bank accounts, and one suspect (Erden Timur) who previously served as an administrator at Galatasaray Sports Club, and whose suspicious financial transactions are evaluated to violate Article 11 of Law No. 6222, Law No. 5549, and Law No. 7258, were identified as being interconnected,

A total of 29 suspects, including 14 players who placed bets in a way that would affect the outcome of the match (betting on the opposing team to win in their own team's match), have been subjected to simultaneous arrests, detentions, searches, and seizures today in a total of 11 different provinces centered in Istanbul."

WHO IS ERDEN TIMUR?

Erden Timur was born on November 16, 1981, in Mersin. He graduated from Tarsus American College in 2000. He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Law in 2005, obtaining a law degree. He then started a master's degree in economics at the London School of Economics but left his education halfway through and returned to Turkey in the third month due to his father's illness. After returning, he entered the construction sector to complete a project that was left unfinished on a plot of land owned by the family company.

In 2010, he established the NEF Real Estate brand under Timur Real Estate Development Construction and Investment Inc. and began developing branded housing projects in cities such as Istanbul, Bodrum, and London.

He applied the foldhome concept, which he holds the patent for, in his projects. According to Forbes 2020 data, he is the 100th richest person in Turkey with a fortune of 400 million dollars. Erden Timur established the Nef Foundation in 2015 to provide social benefit, committing at least 51% of the distributable profit.

After Dursun Özbek was elected president at the extraordinary general assembly of Galatasaray held on June 11, 2022, Erden Timur began serving as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Galatasaray Sportif A.Ş.
