The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has issued detention orders for a total of 29 individuals, including former Galatasaray executive Erden Timur and 14 football players, as part of an investigation into betting in football. The investigation file also includes the match between Kasımpaşa and Samsunspor played on October 26, 2024. In this match, the missed penalties by Samsunspor's Olivier Ntcham and Samsunspor's comeback in the second half drew attention.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that a detention order has been issued for 29 individuals, including former Galatasaray executive Erden Timur, as part of a football betting investigation. The investigation file indicates that 14 of the individuals are football players, and the Kasımpaşa–Samsunspor match played on October 26, 2024, is also included in the investigation.
DETENTION ORDER FOR 29 INDIVIDUALS IN FOOTBALL BETTING INVESTIGATION
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that a detention order has been issued for a total of 29 individuals, including Erden Timur, who previously served as an executive at Galatasaray Sports Club, and 14 of whom are football players.
6 SUSPECTS DETAINED FOR BETTING ON KASIMPAŞA–SAMSUNSPOR MATCH
In the statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was expressed that "6 suspects who placed bets on the Kasımpaşa–Samsunspor football match dated 26/10/2024, which was understood to have affected the outcome of the competition," have been detained.
NTCHAM MISSED 2 PENALTIES, SAMSUNSPOR SCORED 4 GOALS IN THE 2ND HALF AND WON THE MATCH
The match that is part of the investigation had also been a subject of controversy at the time it was played. During the first half of the match, Olivier Ntcham, wearing the Samsunspor jersey, missed two penalties, and despite Kasımpaşa leading 1-0 at halftime, Samsunspor turned the score around in the second half and won the match 4-1. This, especially the manner in which the second penalty was taken and Ntcham's behavior, was widely discussed in the public.
